Because the beginning of time, music has been used as an expression of cultural identification. The Faculty stands above the sphere in a number of methods, together with world-class musical innovators on school; a stylistically open method to musical creativity; the flexibility for students to work with mentors from all areas of the College to construct individualized programs of research; ample opportunities for collaboration inside CalArts’ multidisciplinary arts setting; flexibility for college students to prepare ensembles, typically with faculty participation; and performances which can be centered on original music and spontaneous creation alongside extant musical literature and interactive media.

The Ontario Arts Council supports artists and organizations working in a wide range of kinds and genres of music. Regardless of which pathway you wish to pursue, in First Year you will take programs offering key foundational abilities in Music and two additional Arts topics offered through the School of Arts, Celtic Research and Social Sciences.
